Small choices make a meaningful difference
Small choices can make a meaningful difference, including what we buy, wear, and pass on. One simple way to reduce waste and support a more sustainable future is by embracing circular fashion.
Circular fashion challenges the traditional “buy, wear, discard” approach. Instead, it focuses on keeping clothing and accessories in use longer through resale. By choosing second-hand or consignment clothing and accessories, we can help reduce the demand for new production while giving existing fashion items a second life.
The environmental benefits are significant. Producing new clothing requires large amounts of water, energy, and raw materials. For example, a single designer clothing piece can take around 2,700 liters of water to produce.
Fashion waste is also a growing concern.
Millions of tons of textiles are discarded each year, and much of it ends up in landfills. Buying second-hand, quality items, and choosing durable pieces all help keep clothing and accessories out of the waste stream.
Sustainable style can start with simple habits. Shop consignment, choose quality over quantity, repair what you can, look to consign when clearing out your wardrobe. These everyday decisions help conserve resources and reduce unnecessary waste.
Circular fashion isn’t just a trend, it’s a practical step toward a more sustainable future. Every reused garment, handbags or other accessories saves resources, reduces waste, and reminds us that mindful choices can make a lasting difference.
Supporting fashion movement
At Leeward House, we are proud to support the circular fashion movement and those working within it. Through our Residency Program, we aim to further this commitment by partnering with leading consignment stores.
The summer of 2026 will see this come to fruition as we will be partnering with Luxury Finds Consignment as part of our commitment in supporting local businesses and fostering greater awareness of the circular fashion industry.
